Pelorus: Arriving
$280.00
This painting was inspired by the Pelorus Sound / Te Hoiere at the north end of the South Island of Aotearoa / New Zealand. Pelorus – Arriving” also references the naming of Aotearoa by Hine te Apārangi on the exploratory voyage led by her husband, the great Polynesian navigator Kupe. She first saw a long white cloud over the ocean, showing the presence of land, calling out “He ao! He ao! He ao tea roa!” meaning, ‘A cloud! A cloud! A long white cloud!.
