Artist Bio
Victoria Howlett’s work plays with the connection between landscape, memory and an evocation of place. Howlett’s recent PhD research at Monash University titled, In Pursuit of Desire Lines: A Woman in the Landscape, was structured around women’s bush painting camps, and documents this relationship between site and artist-observer.
Howlett’s oeuvre, explores a wide selection of materials and techniques from ceramic objects, paper clay documents, small ink sketches, collages and drypoint prints, to large evocative oil paintings. An extensive range of works can be viewed on her website victoriahowlett.com.au
Victoria Howlett is represented in many international and national collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and many state, regional and municipal galleries, as well as Artbank and numerous private collections. She has lectured in art schools for many decades and is currently writing a monograph of her life’s work.
