I watched with interest the progress of the Groynes being built whilst on day to day walks along the beach with my Dog. Occasionally stopping to sketch the activity, I noticed on one particular day when the sea mist and mountain mist met over the Groynes. The black silhouette of the excavator against the bright sunlight through the mist made it look almost pre-historic, a monster rising from the depths and walking along the Groynes. I wanted to convey this idea in a small sketch on canvas by simplifying the content and using only tonal, lights and darks

Artist Bio
Fred has a Studio in Apollo Bay Victoria. Originally trained as a Graphic Artist in London he moved to Melbourne in 1987 and after 3o years in the city has moved to the Bay. Always looking to find unusual subject matter and drawing on his natural draughtsmanship, he has created a distinctive personnel style. These two black and white sketches on canvas explore the juxtaposition of large machinery against the expanse of the bay.
