Artist Bio

Karla Devlin is based in Ballarat, but spends as much time as possible at the beach. She works mainly in pencil, ink and acrylic on canvas and paper. At the moment she is drawn to exploring a monochromatic pallet. Karla is passionate about the natural world; she is inspired by the ocean and all things one finds on the beach, including feathers, shells and the occasional piece of sea glass. Feathers make a surprisingly frequent appearance in her work, and symbols that represent strength and growth, as well as hope, freedom and our connection to the spirt realm. These ideas resonate in her work and reflect her connection to nature, her ability to see the potential for growth in each new experience and her belief in the importance of calm and grounding meditation. Karla is a primary school teacher during the working week, generously shares her work with her students, families and friends and is aspiring to offer her first solo exhibition in 2022.
