Before the crowds

This scene was referenced directly from a family holiday to Port Campbell. My husband grew up in Port as a child, and we have since returned to the town most years for family holidays and to catch up with old friends. Over Christmas 2 years ago, we went down with the family for a week and spent a significant amount of time on the beach in the mornings “before the crowds”. At this time of day we would be guaranteed to catch up with other locals getting their swims in early too. One morning, my then 3-year-old son was chasing a flock of seagulls out to sea, they flew to the pier before they turned around and flew back directly over his head. We were lucky enough to take a perfectly timed photo, and this became the reference for my painting. A magical moment captured in time 🙂
