Ancient Shores

$650.00

In 2020 while researching his book Shore Life of the Great Ocean Road (2022) and exploring reefs along the Otways coast, Tim discovered a dinosaur trackway on a remote shore platform west of Cape Volney. He made moulds of the prints and had them cast made by the renowned Museums Victoria artist, Peter Swinkles. This is Tim’s favourite dinosaur footprint; a small ‘raised’ track infill, length of 12.0 cm, width of 14.4 cm. It is believed to be the right footprint of an ornithopod (plant eating) dinosaur, with a hip height of approximately 48 cm. The track includes a Ribbed Topshell (Austrocochlea constricta), two Van Diemen’s Siphon Shells (Siphonaria dimenensis) and Honeycomb Barnacles (Chamaesipho tasmanica). This caste is one of only two made with the Ribbed Topshell. This and other track casts from Cape Volney are held for display at the Apollo Bay & District Museum.
