Autumn Reverie

$250.00

‘Autumn Reverie of Land and Sea’
This woollen cloth is cut from an old pink blanket with a label that reads:
The Celebrated Waverley Blanket
100% Pure Wool
“The Best for Rest”
Made in Australia
The wool for this piece came from sheep which grazed in Tasmania and the wool was processed and woven at the Waverly Woollen Mill in Launceston. The leaves and seeds were gathered in the Otways, the seaweed harvested at Blanket Bay and the botanical print was bundled tightly and created in a cauldron at Cape Otway. It is a double-sided print, a generous measure (approx. 2.5 metres by 50 cms) and could be worn as a shawl/scarf, be hung on a wall or used as a table runner. The dyeing process has changed the colour from pink to a soft fawn shade and there is one tiny hole, decoratively stitched to bear visible testimony to the blanket’s previous life in an Aussie home.
Constant, direct sunlight will cause gradual fading of the print but light occasional washing should not affect the print.
